Putting the washing away could use a boss-battle soundtrack. The stakes are low, the socks are numerous, and a sufficiently dramatic piece of music can make matching them feel like the final stage of an extremely domestic quest. I think we should make more use of this.
There is a particular pleasure in music being wildly out of proportion to the task. Stirring pasta with the energy of a spaceship launch. Walking to the corner shop as though the opening credits have just started. Cleaning the kitchen while a heroic orchestra apparently believes you are saving a kingdom. The contrast is half the fun.
A ridiculously specific playlist makes it even better. “Sorting the Drawer of Mysterious Cables” should sound different from “Bringing All the Shopping Bags Inside in One Trip”. One is an archaeological expedition; the other is a test of determination and finger strength. Both deserve a theme, though perhaps the shopping should have a shorter one.
None of this makes the washing more important. It just gives an ordinary ten minutes a bit of theatre. Pick something cheerful, dramatic or gloriously excessive and let the mundane job have its moment. If the last pair of socks gets a triumphant finale, that seems entirely reasonable.
